At Gray Matter Marketing, we’re lucky to have some awesome interns come through our doors! Each semester, we have a few interns who come on board and learn the ropes of event production, marketing, and management. Leanne, one of our rockstar interns from Fall 2018, shares her thoughts and experience before the end of her semester with us:

Where do you go to school and what are you studying?

I am a senior at Roger Williams University. I am majoring in marketing and minoring in psychology.

What do you do outside of school and GMM?

I work at a local café in Portsmouth called Anna D’s Café. Fitting well with my love for coffee and people, this part-time job has benefited me in many ways. I have made many connections with different people and businesses in the area and it is actually where I found out about the internship opportunities here at GMM.

What are some of your career goals?

Overall, I’d like to find a job in the marketing field. I have a passion for both creative advertising and branding but all areas of marketing are very interesting to me. I’d love to work with local small business and help them find their brand or work in an agency as a brand strategist or on a creative team. I’m just really excited to start a career in this field so I am eagerly looking to get my foot in the door where I can!

What was your favorite part of interning at Gray Matter Marketing?

My favorite part of GMM was getting to learn about event marketing. During my college classes, we learn about promotions and sponsorships but never really get in too deep about the logistic behind events that are held. Before I started my internship I never really thought about who set up the road race courses or who pushed ads through media platforms for local beer festivals. Now, I know and have seen the ins and outs of the industry within just a few months and it was all so interesting to me.

What is one thing you learned during your time here at GMM?

During my time at GMM, I definitely improved my problem-solving skills. The events being very high-pace with many people when small inconveniences occurred there was no choice but to solve it and solve it fast. Between New England’s weather affecting set up, and jerry-rigging tents and camera tripods with zip ties, we were always able to find quick solutions as a team.

Thank you for joining us this semester, Leanne!
