04 Nov Meet Our Intern: Sean Bryant
Hello, my name is Sean Bryant, and I am currently a graduate student at Stonehill College. I am finishing up my Master’s Degree with a focus on Integrated Marketing Communications. During my time pursuing this degree, I have been fortunate enough to have not one but two amazing internships. Outside of the office, a few of my interests are finding new and exciting places to eat great food, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
My internship experience at Gray Matter Marketing has been an awesome time. The internship has been a hands-on experience from day one. My first event at which I helped the Gray Matter team was the University Orthopedics 5K in East Providence. Right away, I was thrown into what needs to get done to run a successful event. I was tasked with setting up the registration area so runners could pick up their bibs, and helped place cones from the back of a moving truck along the racecourse. Once the race was finished, the team quickly and efficiently packed everything up. Gray Matter is such a small team, but they effectively and efficiently put on the events without any issues.
Interns at Gray Matter Marketing get hands-on experience ranging from social media and Adobe Photoshop to event management. I have created social media copy for the Amica Newport Marathon’s Instagram posts and stories. Also, I have written a few blog posts for the Gray Matter website. I gained hands-on experience in what is involved in setting up successful events. There are so many moving parts that need to come together to successfully put the event on.
My favorite event I got to work during my time at the internship was the Cape Cod Brew Festival. It was a long day getting to the site at 10:00 am to set up the site for all the attendees. It took several hours to set up all the tents and, tables and to organize all the craft beer that we would be serving. Before the event started, I recorded a short 30 second to 1-minute video of each vendor describing the beers that they would be pouring that day to post on the event’s official social media. At the peak of the event, we hosted over 1,300 attendees.
Before this internship, I never knew how much work was involved in setting up events. Taking on this internship has provided me with a newfound respect for anyone who works in event management roles and industry.
